WILLIAMSON COUNTY (Talk1370.com) -- One person is dead and a Williamson County Sheriff's deputy was sent to the hospital after a crash on Interstate 35 Sunday night in Williamson County.

Officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety say 78-year old Jones Okey was killed in the crash, which happened around 9:45 p.m. Sunday night near exit 274. Okey died fter his vehicle was struck by an off-duty WCSO deputy in a marked patrol vehicle.

According to the investigation, DPS said Okey's vehicle was traveling on the left shoulder when it veered over in front of the patrol car, which was in the left-hand travel lane. The patrol car rear-ended the vehicle, forcing Okey's vehicle off the highway into a grassy median.

The deputy was taken to St. David’s Hospital in Georgetown. According to Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody, the deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
