AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Justin Thomas overcame one mistake with five birdies on his back nine for a 6-under 64 and a share of the early lead with English duo Tommy Fleetwood and Ian Poulter in the second round of the Bridgestone Invitational.

Firestone remained soft and accessible for low scores on Friday. One day after the lowest opening-round scoring average in the 19-year history of this World Golf Championship, most players had little trouble keeping tee shots in the fairway and attacking the pins.

Fleetwood had a 63, while Poulter backed up his career-best 62 in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event with a 67.

They were at 11-under 129. Tiger Woods was among half of the 71-man field playing in the afternoon.

Thomas hit 3-wood into the water for his third shot on the par-5 16th and salvaged bogey.
