Apartment fire in central Austin leaves one hospitalized; 40 displaced

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A man was seriously injured and roughly 40 people have been displaced from their homes following an overnight apartment fire in central Austin.

Officials say the fire started around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the Park Avenue Place Apartments, located at 306 East 30th Street.

Fire crews rescued a man in his 50s and transported him to Dell Seton Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause; the fire directly damaged two apartments, with 10 others suffering fire control, smoke, and water damage.

Fire officials say all of the residents of the 32 units in the building - estimated to be 40 people - will be displaced. Crews say the fire did $300,000 in damages.
