APD fields 150 suspicious package calls Monday evening, early Tuesday

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Following Monday's two package explosions and a similar incident less than two weeks ago, Austin officials are warning residents to leave unexpected or suspicious packages alone.

Interim Chief Brian Manley said in a tweet Tuesday morning that the department had fielded 150 calls about suspicious packages as of 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. For comparison, the department got two calls last Monday.

Nothing suspicious was found after any of the 150 calls.

Police have said their response times might be stretched slightly due to the influx of calls, but they would rather play it safe and have residents exercise extreme caution. If you see a suspicious package, call 9-1-1 immediately and officers will respond to investigate as quickly as they can.
