Arrest made, victim identified in eastside shooting

AUSTIN ( -- Austin Police have identified the victim and a suspect has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting Thursday night on the city's east side.

Police were called to 1050 Springdale Road just before 10:15 p.m. Thursday night, on a 911 call reporting a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim, identified as 38-year old James Lewis Allen Jr., with obvious trauma to his body. EMS arrived and attempted lifesaving measures, but Allen was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives spoke with witnesses and developed a profile of a suspect, who has been identified as 21-year old Jeffrey Garner. Police say Garner was arrested around 11:20 a.m. Friday morning in Manor, and is currently in the Travis County Jail.

An autopsy on Allen is pending by the Travis County Medical Examiner.
