AUSTIN ( -- Austin ISD employees will get a pay raise for the 2019-20 school year, officials announced Thursday morning.

According to AISD Superintendent Paul Cruz, teachers, counselors, and librarians with more than five years experience will get a 7 percent pay raise. All other teachers and many other staff members across the district will get a 6 percent pay increase.

Stipends for special education teachers and bilingual teachers will be increased as well, Cruz said.

District officials say the complete package of increases represent about a $48 million cost to the district. According to Cruz, House Bill 3, recently passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott, called for $21 million in increases.

The budget for the 2019-20 school year is expected to be adopted by the AISD board at Monday night's meeting.
