AUSTIN ( -- Amenities at Austin's parks will close to encourage compliance with the city's "Stay Home, Work Safe" order, officials announced Saturday.

The closure affects all park amenities with the exception of restrooms and water fountains. Some examples include:

  • Basketball courts
  • Tennis courts
  • Skate parks
  • Playgrounds (which were already closed last week)
  • Exercise equipment (which were already closed last week)
  • Pavilions

Park green space, trails and golf course green spaces - places where social distancing can still be maintained - remain open.

Crews will install signage over the next few days to remind park users of the closures.

City officials urge people to continue practice social distancing and proper hygiene if they use park green space, trails or golf course green space.

Park restrooms that are open are cleaned and sanitized multiple times a day. Some restrooms remain closed that were closed prior to the COVID-19 outbreak for construction or repair.
