AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Public Health confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing Travis County's total to 98.

The update comes as the city of Austin, along with Travis County and Williamson County are hours away from entering a near-three-week period of "Stay Home, Work Safe" restrictions that prohibit nearly all but essential business and activities.

"Now is the time for us really to focus on keeping each other safe. Let’s all actively decrease our physical interactions with others each day. The best way to do that? Stay home - unless it’s essential," Austin Mayor Steve Adler said.

Hays County added 2 additional cases, while Williamson County announced 5 new cases earlier Tuesday.
