AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An employee with Austin-Travis County EMS has tested positive for the coronavirus, officials announced Wednesday.

Chief Ernesto Rodriguez said during an afternoon press conference that the employee is in quarantine. It's not clear right now if they got the disease from a patient or from other contact.

Health officials are working to trace the individual's contacts; if other medics were in close contact with the individual for an extended period of time, they will be isolated as well.

Rodriguez says EMS personnel are prepared to deal with infectious diseases every day, and protective gear and training are available to keep them safe and healthy.
