AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Brian Manley can officially remove "interim" from his job title.

Thursday, Austin City Council voted to approve Manley following the recommendation of City Manager Spencer Cronk. Manley has served as the interim chief for a year and a half, after former Chief Art Acevedo left to head up the Houston Police Department in November of 2016.

Cronk officially picked Manley for the job after a series of community forums, allowing citizens to ask Manley questions.

Manley was named the sole finalist for the position after his leadership during the package bombings in March.

Manley will oversee a department of more than 2,600 employees and a budget of $422 million.
