Bystander hit, killed after street racing crash in north Austin

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A man is dead after his vehicle was struck by two drivers street racing Tuesday night.

Austin Police were called to the scene of Research Boulevard near Payton Gin Road around 8:40 p.m., along the northbound frontage road.

Austin-Travis County EMS says a man in his 40s was pronounced deceased on the scene. A man in his 20s was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the victim was attempting to turn onto the frontage road when his vehicle was struck by one of the racing vehicles. The other racer fled the scene in a black SUV.
