CapMetro set to break ground on new downtown rail station

March 25, 2019 - 8:58 am

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Officials will break ground Monday on a new downtown rail station for Capital Metro's MetroRail.

The new station will increase capacity at the downtown station, offer larger platforms and a signature public plaza. The station will take over 4th Street between Red River and Trinity, with a new public plaza in the portion between Trinity and Neches.

Construction is expected to take about two years. At some point during construction, CapMetro says it will need to completely close the existing downtown station and bus commuters from Plaza Saltillo into the downtown area.
