AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Capital Metro says it will resume fares on its services on June 1.

The transit agency has been running its services fare-free since the beginning of April.

For those experiencing unemployment, the agency will introduce a "Workforce Aid Pass" that will continue to offer free rides through the month of June. Anyone who is currently unemployed and approved for benefits through the Texas Workforce Commission can apply.

"We’re really proud of the way our CapMetro team has adjusted these past few months to care for our community," CapMetro president and CEO Randy Clarke said in a written statement. "We want to further extend our support for members of the community who are experiencing unemployment and are maybe even using CapMetro services to find their next job."

Customers will also be able to board from the front door on buses again beginning June 1. The transit agency says plexiglass shields will be installed on all vehicles by the end of May to further protect operators and customers.
