Crash with 18-wheeler downtown sends 3 to hospital

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Three people were transported to area hospitals early Sunday morning following a collision involving an 18-wheeler on Interstate 35 in downtown Austin.

Officials say the crash happened around 4 a.m. in the lower deck of southbound I-35. One vehicle ended up pinned under the truck, requiring Austin Fire crews to lift the trailer to be able to extricate the injured driver.

Austin-Travis County EMS says one adult male was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries; two other adults were also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
