Credit card skimmer found at NW Austin gas pump

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Another credit card skimmer has been found at an Austin-area gas pump, this time on the city's northwest side.

Officials with the Texas Department of Agriculture found the skimmer Wednesday at the 7-Eleven at RM 620 and Anderson Mill Road. Officials say the skimmer was found in pump #15 at the station.

TDA officials say you can increase your chances of avoiding a skimmer by following these tips:

  • Use a pump as close to the storefront as possible, in view of store personnel
  • Before pumping, use your cell phone to check for any unusual Bluetooth signals
  • Check for signs of tampering or vandalism on the pump itself - torn security tape or seals, or damaged locks
