GATESVILLE, Texas (KJCE) -- Emergency crews responded Tuesday afternoon to a construction site at the Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville, following a reported explosion and partial collapse.

First responders have reported injuries. The explosion happened just after 2:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, in a wing of the hospital currently under construction.

A hospital spokesperson told KWTX-TV that 4 people were injured in the blast, one of which had critical injuries.

12 patients were being evacuated from the hospital, transported to other nearby facilities outside of Gatesville.

Area first responders have descended upon the scene. Austin-Travis County EMS said in a tweet that it is sending 5 ambulances, staff, and other resources.

Two nearby medical facilities were being evacuated as well, reportedly due to loss of power in the immediate area. Nearly a thousand homes are reported to be without power.

Gatesville is about 75 miles north of Austin.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we get further details.
