Fatal crash on 183 kills two, injures three others

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Two people are dead following a traffic accident in northwest Austin Saturday afternoon.

Austin police say they received 911 calls from the 9400 block of Research Boulevard around 3:30 p.m. A black Jeep traveling in the northbound mainlanes of U.S. 183 crossed over into the southbound lanes, striking a white Fiat. Two occupants in the Fiat - a woman in her 30s, and a juvenile male - were killed in the collision. Two other occupants of the Fiat - a male in his 40s and a juvenile female - were transported to nearby hospitals with critical, life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Jeep was also transported a nearby hospital in critical condition.

After striking the Fiat, the Jeep continued on and struck a white BMW. The driver of the BMW was uninjured, and is cooperating with the police investigation.

Police say no charges have been filed yet, but the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to call APD's Vehicular Homicide detectives at (512) 974-4424.
