AUSTIN (KJCE) -- The first workday of 2019 for many will be wet and cold, according to forecasters.

A large upper-level trough currently sitting over New Mexico will bring a chance for freezing rain to the northwest Hill Country and Edwards Plateau. Accumulations, if any, will be less than a tenth of an inch.

Closer to Interstate 35, the Austin metro and points eastward will see a chance at potentially heavy rains. Forecast models suggest as much as 2-3 inches of rain could fall over the Austin area in the next 36 hours, which could produce some minor flooding in low-lying areas.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the entire Austin metro from 10 a.m. Wednesday morning until 9 p.m. Wednesday night.

The rain will move out Thursday afternoon, setting up a mild forecast for the first weekend of 2019. Temperatures will remain in the upper 30s and lower 40s in the Austin metro today and tomorrow.
