FORECAST: Morning fog, gusty winds Tuesday afternoon, severe storms tonight

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- For the thousands of visitors in Austin for SXSW, Tuesday is probably not going to be the best example of Austin weather.

A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. for the entire Austin metro, with visibilities of a quarter-mile or less. A warm front will be backing up through the area that will push the fog and rain chances away for the afternoon.

Later this evening, a strong upper-level low will move through, bringing a chance of strong to severe storms to the area. The timing on this has shifted just a bit, with the biggest impacts to the Hill Country between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, and the I-35 corridor being impacted during Wednesday morning's commute.

Strong winds, large hail, and heavy rains are the biggest threats.

Here's a look at the extended forecast:

TODAY...Warmer, cloudy. Areas of dense fog in the morning. Chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms early in the morning, then a slight chance of showers in the late morning and afternoon. Highs in the mid 70s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 40 percent.

TONIGHT...Chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Some thunderstorms may be severe after midnight. Lows in the lower 60s. South winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Chance of rain 80 percent.

WEDNESDAY...Mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms likely in the morning, then mostly sunny in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 70s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 30 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT...Cooler. Clear before midnight then becoming partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

THURSDAY...Sunny. Highs in the upper 60s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

THURSDAY NIGHT...Clear. Lows in the lower 40s.

FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...Partly cloudy. Highs around 60. Lows around 40.

SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...Mostly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s. Highs in the lower 60s.
