FORT WORTH ( -- A Fort Worth teenager is dead following a fireworks accident Thursday night.

Paramedics say a 19-year old male suffered "extensive trauma" in the accident, at a home on the city's east side around 10 p.m. Thursday. Officials say he may have been holding or trying to launch a firework when it exploded on him, causing severe injuries to his hand, arm, and chest.

The teen, identified as Maneno Juma, was in cardiac arrest when medics arrived. He was pronounced deceased a short time later at an area hospital.

Fort Worth fire officials say they had two similar incidents Thursday night that were not fatal. In all, the department says it fielded more than 2,000 fireworks calls. As in most cities across Texas, most consumer-grade fireworks are illegal within the city limits.
