Freeze warning issued for Austin, metro counties

December 07, 2017 - 2:29 pm

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A Freeze Warning has been issued for the Austin metro area, ahead of an expected freeze tonight.

The National Weather Service says temperatures in the city of Austin are expected to dip just below the freezing mark; the Hill Country could see temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. It will be the coldest temperatures the area has experienced since January 2017.

The warning runs through 9 AM Friday morning.

No accumulation of precipitation is expected, but any remaining standing water from rains that have fallen in the past 24-48 hours may re-freeze tonight - resulting in possible black ice conditions on elevated surfaces and secondary roadways. Officials recommend using caution while driving overnight and Friday morning.
