AUSTIN ( -- Gas prices are down slightly this week across the Austin area, according to the latest numbers from AAA Texas.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the Austin-San Marcos metro area is $2.24 this week, down one cent from last week and 27 cents cheaper than this time a year ago.

Statewide, drivers are paying an average of $2.25 this week, down two cents from a week ago and down 27 cents from this time last year. Across the country, drivers are paying an average of $2.61, which is one cent cheaper than a week ago.

Drivers in Midland are paying the most on average at $2.44, while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $2.15 per gallon.

AAA's Daniel Armbruster says refinery maintenance across the country continues, though utilization rates have increased in the last week. "Regional refinery utilization is increasing which is adding more gasoline supply to the market and keeping prices lower. Drivers will likely see cheaper gas prices in the beginning days of November."
