AUSTIN ( -- Prices at the pump are on the rise this week, according to the latest numbers from AAA Texas.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Austin this week is $2.50. That's six cents higher than last week, and 10 cents cheaper than a year ago.

Drivers across Texas and the country are seeing similar increases. The statewide average is up seven cents this week to $2.54; nationally, the average is up four cents to $2.79.

Midland continues to see the state's highest average at $2.70, with drivers in McAllen paying the least on average at $2.39.

"Gas prices have increased amid more expensive crude oil prices, robust demand and decreasing gasoline stocks," said Daniel Armbruster with AAA Texas. More people are hitting the roads for vacations and quick getaways with the summer driving season in full swing.

Hurricane Barry had minimal impact on gas prices in the region. The one refinery Barry forced to shut down is now in the restart process and other refineries that were in the storm’s path report few, if any, impacts on operations.
