Excessive heat warning issued for Austin metro for Sunday

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for Sunday, as high pressure continues to bring hot temperatures to Central Texas.

The warning goes into effect at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon and will last until 8 p.m., with forecast highs expected between 105 and 108 degrees.

Heat index values are expected to soar into the upper 100s, to as high as 110 degrees.

The National Weather Service offers the following heat safety tips:

  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room
  • Stay out of the sun
  • Check up on relatives and neighbors
  • Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances

Triple-digit heat is expected to continue into early next week, before cooling off into the upper 90s by mid-week.
