Heavy rains, minor flooding possible Friday

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- The end of the week will be a wet one, forecasters say.

The combination of an approaching cold front and a potent upper level disturbance will bring widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms to the area beginning Thursday night.

Forecasters say widespread totals of 1 to 4 inches of rain are possible, with isolated spots receiving up to 6 inches. Minor flooding is possible, especially at low-water crossings and other low-lying areas.

Here's a look at the forecast for the week:

Tuesday: Sunny. Highs in the mid 50s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s. Northeast winds 5 mph.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 50s. Northeast winds 5 mph shifting to the southeast in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy before midnight then becoming cloudy. Lows in the mid 40s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: Cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs in the lower 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Cloudy. Chance of showers before midnight, then showers likely and slight chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Lows in the mid 50s. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Friday: Showers and chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the lower 60s. Temperature steady or slowly falling in the afternoon. Chance of rain 90 percent.

Friday Night: Showers and chance of thunderstorms before midnight, then showers likely and chance of thunderstorms after midnight. Locally heavy rainfall possible before midnight. Lows in the upper 40s. Chance of rain 100 percent.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy. A 20 percent chance of rain in the morning. Highs in the mid 50s. Temperature steady or slowly falling in the afternoon.

Saturday Night: Colder. Mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s.

Sunday: Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 40s.
