AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Later this week, late-night construction work will have an impact on your travel plans if they include Interstate 35 in South Austin.

Crews will be setting beams for new bridge construction at Oltorf Street and William Cannon Drive. The work at Oltorf is scheduled to take place Wednesday and Thursday nights, May 9 and 10; while the work at William Cannon is scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights, May 11 and 12.

For the Oltorf project, the northbound mainlanes will close Wednesday night at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. Thursday morning. Crews will work in the southbound lanes Thursday night, closing them at 10 p.m. and re-opening them at 5 a.m. Friday morning. Interstate traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads; traffic on Oltorf trying to get across the interstate will be detoured north or south to Woodland Avenue or Woodward Street.

Friday night, the northbound lanes will close at William Cannon between 11pm and 9am Saturday morning. Crews will move to the southbound lanes on Saturday night, between 11pm and 10am Sunday. Interstate traffic will detour to the frontage roads; traffic on William Cannon trying to cross the interstate will be detoured to Stassney Lane or Slaughter Lane.

The closures are subject to change, depending on weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

The Oltorf project is part of a $42.6 million project to rebuild the Oltorf intersection with I-35 and add U-turns in both directions; it is expected to be completed in Spring 2019. The William Cannon project, along with work at Stassney Lane, is part of a $78.8 million project expected to be completed in late 2019 or early 2020.
