ICE enforcement surge in Central, South Texas nets 52 arrests

AUSTIN ( -- Immigration officials say 52 arrests were made across Central and South Texas during a four-day enforcement action last week.

According to an ICE press release, 16 arrests were made in the Austin/Waco area. 35 of those who were arrested had prior criminal histories including convictions or pending charges for crimes such as assault, driving under the influence, drug trafficking, and illegal entry.

18 of those arrested were immigration fugitives with a final order of removal; 21 others had illegally re-entered the United States after having been previously deported, which is a felony.
