AUSTIN (KJCE) -- A number of protesters were arrested Saturday afternoon after blocking traffic on the Lamar Boulevard bridge over Lady Bird Lake.

Protesters began to block traffic in the 200 block of South Lamar just after 3 p.m., shortly after Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court in the U.S. Senate.

Austin Police were called to the scene, and told protesters they needed to move because they were blocking traffic. Some left, while others refused. Roughly a dozen people began making a human chain across the bridge, shutting down traffic.

Police began making arrests around 6 p.m., using zipties when officers ran out of handcuffs. Officers say the crowd at its peak was somewhere between 100 and 150 people.
