Leander Police arrest man trying to install credit card skimmer at gas pump

LEANDER (KJCE) -- Leander Police caught a man in the act of tampering with a credit card reader at a closed convenience store early Friday morning.

Officials say patrol officers came across a suspicious vehicle parked at the gas pumps of a closed convenience store located in the 1900 block of South Bagdad Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning. The officers made contact with 28-year old Leonardo Gonzalez, who was behaving suspiciously near the gas pumps. Officers found Gonzalez removing components from the credit card reader on one of the gas pumps.

Gonzalez was transported to the Williamson County Jail and charged with 1 misdemeanor count of Criminal Mischief and 3 misdemeanor counts of unlawful use of a criminal instrument or mechanical security device.

Officers checked other convenience stores in the area and did not find any signs of tampering. The case remains under investigation.
