Lightning strike ignites fire at Bastrop State Park

April 14, 2018 - 11:00 pm

BASTROP (KJCE) -- Crews spent much of Saturday fighting a fire in Bastrop State Park, believed to have been started by a lightning strike.

Late Saturday evening, officials said the fire was contained. The Joe Small Fire, as it's being called, covered about 10 acres in the northwest side of the park. That's a reduction in size from an original estimate of nearly 25 acres.

City of Bastrop officials said the fire did not threaten any structures or people.

Travis County STAR Flight, as well as a number of ground agencies, assisted in containing and knocking down the blaze.
