AUSTIN ( -- Traffic on Interstate 35 was snarled through the downtown area after pieces of the upper deck's side wall fell onto the lower deck mainlanes.

Austin Police say they first received reports of the debris on the lower deck around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday evening. Officials with TxDOT later confirmed that the chunks of concrete came from the side wall of the upper deck, likely knocked loose after a vehicle crashed into the wall.

The lower deck re-opened to traffic shortly after midnight. In addition to the northbound lower deck, crews had one lane of the northbound upper deck closed briefly.

TxDOT says repairs will be completed in the next few days.
