AUSTIN ( -- Weather permitting, a new section of the 183 South toll road will open this weekend in southeast Austin.

Officials with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority say the section between Techni Center Drive and Bolm Road is expected to open as early as Saturday, increasing the open length of the toll road to more than 4 miles.

183 South September 19 opening

The newly opened section will remain toll-free for the time being as construction continues. Drivers heading northbound will need to use the US 183 "Last Free Exit" marked just north of the Colorado River near Bolm Road to avoid toll charges on the previously opened sections of the roadway.

Later this month, an additional exit ramp will open for FM 969 and Loyola Lane, just north of Techni Center Drive. The toll at that new ramp will be $0.89 via a prepaid toll account like TxTag or a $1.34 for those who choose to Pay By Mail.

The $743 million 183 South project, stretching from State Highway 71 to US Highway 290, is expected to be completed in early 2021.
