Northbound I-35 at FM 3406 to close Sunday night

August 11, 2017 - 8:10 am

ROUND ROCK (KJCE) - Crews will close the northbound mainlanes of Interstate 35 Sunday night in Round Rock at Old Settlers Boulevard (FM 3406).

The work, rescheduled from last week due to inclement weather, involves placing bridge beams for a new turnaround bridge currently under construction at the intersection.

Northbound I-35 traffic will be closed and detoured to the frontage roads at exit 254 from 10 p.m. Sunday night until 5 a.m. Monday morning. In addition, FM 3406 over the Interstate will be closed in both directions. Traffic trying to cross the interstate on FM 3406 will be detoured to either RM 1431 or US 79.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes, as delays are expected. TxDOT asks the traveling public to be patient and remain aware when traveling through the work zone.

The I-35 at FM 3406 project will improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for all modes of transportation along and across I-35. Work includes replacing and widening the FM 3406 bridge and constructing two new U-turn bridges. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will also be made within the project limits.

Work on the $12.4 million project is expected to continue through spring 2019, weather permitting.
