One dead after driver runs red light in North Austin crash

AUSTIN ( -- One person is dead after an early morning crash on the city's north side Monday.

First responders were called to the intersection of Rutland Drive and Mearns Meadow Boulevard in North Austin just after 1:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Police say a driver headed westbound on Rutland ran a red light, broadsiding a driver headed northbound on Mearns Meadow. Both vehicles came to a stop in the grass just off the roadway.

Austin-Travis County EMS says its medics performed CPR on one of the drivers, but ultimately pronounced the victim deceased.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
