One dead, two injured after auto-pedestrian accident downtown

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- One person is dead and two others injured following an auto-pedestrian crash in downtown Austin Thursday morning.

The accident happened just after 8:30 a.m. along the northbound Interstate 35 frontage road at Cesar Chavez Street. Austin Police say the crash began involving two vehicles; after the collision, the driver of the van veered under the interstate underpass and struck three people.

Austin-Travis County EMS says a woman in her 40s died at the scene, and 2 other patients in their 50s had minor injuries and refused transport.

Police continue to investigate. Motorists should expect delays and road closures in the area.
