One person displaced, six pets killed in south Austin house fire

AUSTIN ( -- Fire officials are working to determine the cause of an overnight house fire in south Austin that left one person displaced and claimed the lives of six pets.

Crews were called to the 2200 block of Delcrest, near South Lamar and Oltorf, just after 2 a.m. Tuesday morning. When firefighters arrived on scene, the home was already heavily involved with flames showing from the roof.

According to Austin Fire, the occupant was not home at the time of the fire. Officials say 5 pets - two dogs, two cats, and a parrot - perished in the fire. A third cat is missing and is presumed to have been killed in the fire.

Officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
