AUSTIN ( -- Officials are investigating after a deadly accident in north Austin Thursday morning.

Police say the crash involving a pedestrian happened just after 6 a.m. in the 8700 block of North Lamar Boulevard. A dark blue or black small pickup truck was driving northbound when it struck the pedestrian; the driver fled the scene after the accident.

Austin-Travis County EMS transported the victim to Dell Seton Medical Center undergoing CPR, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Police say the victim appears to be a Hispanic male in his 40s.

Police say the pedestrian was not crossing the street at a marked crosswalk, and it was still dark at the time of the accident.

A Capital Metro bus was stopped at a nearby bus stop, and police are working to analyze video from that bus.

Police are searching for the driver and vehicle, which likely has damage to its front right fender and side view mirror.
