AUSTIN ( -- Austin Police are investigating a body found Tuesday that they believe may be that of a woman reported missing last week.

Police said Monday that 40-year old San Juana Macias had been missing since Friday, July 5, after she was last seen in the 1100 block of Clayton Lane.

According to APD, Macias' ex-boyfriend, who has been identified as 40-year old Jamie Jerome Wingwood, made comments to her family that led them to believe Macias' life was in imminent danger and that Wingwood was fleeing the state to avoid apprehension by law enforcement. Detectives issued a nationwide BOLO alert on Wingwood's 2008 Honda Accord.

On Monday, APD detectives were contacted by officials from Jefferson County, Texas, where sheriff's deputies were engaged in a vehicle pursuit with a vehicle matching the BOLO alert. The pursuit continued into Beaumont, Orange County and across the Louisiana state line into Westlake, just west of Lake Charles. Officials say the pursuit lasted over an hour, at which point Wingwood collided with two law enforcement vehicles and caused a major crash between a passenger car and an 18-wheeler. The pursuit ended with Wingwood crashing his vehicle and JCSO deputies taking him into custody. Wingwood was transported to a local hospital for treatment before being arraigned.

Tuesday, APD detectives traveled to Louisiana to interview Wingwood. During that interview, Wingwood provided information that led officers to the Roadway Inn at 1601 East U.S. 290, where the body was located. Although APD detectives believe the body is that of Macias, a final identification is pending by the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.
