HAYS COUNTY (Talk1370.com) -- A high-speed chase in Hays County Monday afternoon led to a suspect being shot by sheriff's deputies, officials said.

Hays County Sheriff's officials said the incident began as a pursuit around 5:15 p.m. Monday afternoon, just off of Interstate 35 on South Loop 4. According to an HCSO statement, a deputy saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on I-35 near mile marker 210, recklessly weaving in and out of traffic.

The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but failed to stop and attempted to flee. HCSO deputies, along with Buda Police, were able to disable the vehicle near the Buda city limits on South Loop 4 near Interstate Drive.

When the pursuit ended, the driver displayed a handgun and pointed it out the window, which prompted officers to fire at the suspect.

Officials said the suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, and is reported to be in stable condition. No officers were injured in the incident.

An investigation into the incident continues.
