AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Police have identified the victim in a homicide on the city's south side Sunday night.

Austin Police responded to the 500 block of East Stassney Lane just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday night, after receiving a 911 call saying someone had been stabbed. Upon arrival, police found 23-year old Fabian Gutierrez who had obvious trauma to his body. Several witnesses were attempting to render aid. EMS arrived shortly afterwards and transported Gutierrez to South Austin Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

During the initial investigation, witnesses said they observed a physical disturbance in the parking lot of the complex between Gutierrez and two other men who may also have been Hispanic. The two males were observed driving away in a red Dodge Ram diesel truck which officers located and impounded a few hours later. Detectives, who believe the parties knew each other, are continuing to work to establish the motive and identities of the suspects.

The Travis County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy on Gutierrez; those details are still pending.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the Homicide Tip Line at (512) 477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-TIPS.

This case marks the 26th murder of 2017 in the City of Austin.
