Quick storms bring strong winds, damage across city

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Quickly moving thunderstorms created havoc across the Austin area Friday night, keeping first responders busy.

Austin Fire officials said crews were responding to dozens of weather-releated calls around 10:45 p.m. One patient along Rainey Street near downtown was reportedly struck by a tree limb and transported to a nearby hopsital by Austin-Travis County EMS.

Elsewhere, crews were dealing with a number of downed trees. No major damage or injuries were reported.

A number of areas, particularly in Williamson County, saw hail with the storms, ranging from pea to dime to nickel sizes.

Following the storms, a cold front moved through the area, leaving possibly dangerous fire conditions Saturday for points along and west of Interstate 35. A Red Flag Warning has been issued from 11am through 7pm Saturday for all of the Austin metro counties.
