UPDATE: On Monday, Denver7 reports that a HealthONE spokesperson said Mr. Dennis's bill from SkyRidge Medical Center has been settled at a $0 balance.

Robert Dennis spent several weeks in the hospital after beating and fighting COVID-19.

After returning home and starting his recovery process, the Colorado native received a staggering bill for his virus treatment.

Denver7, an ABC affiliate in Denver, reported that the high school teacher received a bill for $840,386.94.

Suzanne Dennis, Robert’s wife, said seeing the amount was utterly shocking.

“Seeing that number yesterday for the first bill it kind of took your breath away again,” Suzanne, who also beat the virus, told the outlet.

The statement includes Robert’s hospital stay at Sky Ridge Medical Center, where he was in the intensive care unit and intubated for two weeks.

“His meds just at the hospital are a quarter-million dollars,” Suzanne said.

The bill does not include his three weeks at Spalding Rehabilitation Center or his wife’s trips to the emergency room when she was fighting COVID-19.

The couple estimates their total bills to cost a half-million dollars. Suzanne said it is scary to see a statement high when you know there are going to be more costs.

Both Robert and Suzanne have insurance and plan on calling to make sure they are covered.

The Colorado Division Insurance said if their department takes the insurance, the patient will be protected by a state emergency regulation. The organization also said that if hospitals who treat patients with the virus receive funding from the CARES Act, they are not required to send bills for COVID-19 medical costs.
