Rainy pattern set for this week

Some locally heavy rainfall possible Tuesday & Wednesday

AUSTIN (KJCE) -- Central Texas could see a round of spring-like thunderstorms this week, bringing a chance at heavy rainfall - and potential drought relief - to the area.

Forecasters say a potent upper-level storm system will sweep across Texas beginning early Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing multiple rounds of rain and a risk for some heavy rainfall totals and strong storms.

While the heaviest rainfall totals will occur east of Interstate 35 and northeast of the Austin area in general, we could still see widespread totals of 2-3 inches of rain. Some isolated spots could see totals over 4 inches.

Small hail and gusty winds could also develop in stronger storms. Rain chances will drop with the temperatures as a cold front pushes through on Wednesday, dropping daytime highs into the 50s with morning lows Thursday in the lower 40s.
