Severe weather outlook

AUSTIN ( -- While the promise of record heat held true Wednesday, a chance at severe weather for the Austin area didn't pan out.

Camp Mabry reached a high of 95 degrees Wednesday, breaking the old record of 93 degrees set back in 2011. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport reached 91 degrees, one degree shy of its 1986 record of 92.

Daytime heating and plenty of Gulf moisture created a perfect setup for potentially severe storms to build up, but an approaching dry line from West Texas failed to provide enough lift for storms to develop.

Additional chances at severe storms are possible Thursday afternoon, with the focus shifting just southeast of the Austin area along a La Grange to Pleasanton line.
