Shooting at central Austin hotel leaves one dead, another seriously injured

AUSTIN ( -- Austin Police are investigating an early-morning shooting at a central Austin hotel that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

Police responded to the La Quinta Inn at 5812 North Interstate 35, just near the U.S. 290 interchange, just before 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Investigators say the shooting happened in the parking lot. Police say two people sustained critical injuries in the shooting and were transported to nearby hospitals; a 38-year old man succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Police later identified that victim as Bruce Martinez.

Police continue to search for suspects in the case. A Dodge Charger that witnesses reported seeing at the scene was later found abandoned on East Riverside Drive, according to police.
