AUSTIN (KJCE) -- The death of a 2-year old boy in east Austin on Saturday was the result of numerous blunt force injuries, and police say the child's sister and her boyfriend are facing related charges.

Police say they received a 911 call around 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon, reporting an unresponsive baby in the 6400 block of Springdale Road. Austin-Travis County EMS, along with Austin Police and Austin Fire crews arrived on the scene at 3:18 p.m. Medics reported that the baby, Noel Leal, was already rigid, and paramedics were suspicious about the circumstances reported by family members.  Leal was pronounced deceased at 3:33 p.m.

Homicide detectives arrived and began interviewing family members. During the course of those discussions, investigators learned that 22-year old Selissa Flores, Noel’s sister, had been babysitting him since the previous afternoon. At some point between 9 p.m. on June 1 and 3:10 p.m. on June 2, Noel died after receiving trauma to his head and body. Selissa admitted that she and her boyfriend, 25-year old Miguel Berumen-Zepeda, cleaned up the scene prior to calling 911.

Investigators are still working to determine how long Noel had been dead before Flores called for help.

The Travis County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Sunday, June 3, 2018 and found Noel Leal died as a result of the extensive physical trauma. The cursory manner of death has been ruled a homicide. The final determination is pending.

Selissa Flores is facing charges for tampering with evidence and has a $75,000 bond. Miguel Berumen-Zepeda is also being charged with tampering with evidence and injury to a child and has a $100,000 bond.
