Street racing likely cause of fatal southeast Austin crash

AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Austin Police say street racing was the likely cause behind a fatal crash in southeast Austin late Wednesday night.

First responders were called to the 7500 block of Bluff Springs Road near Quicksilver around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday. Police say their initial investigation indicates that street racing was the likely cause of the accident; neighbors have said that street racing is a common occurrence in the area.

Austin-Travis County EMS says a man in his 20s was transported to South Austin Medical Center with critical, life-threatening injuries; police say he later died at the hospital.

The other driver involved fled the scene, but was located a short time later. Police say that driver is expected to face charges.
