Strong storms move through, dumping heavy rains

AUSTIN ( -- Strong storms and heavy rains pushed through the Austin area Friday afternoon, dropping as much as 4 inches of rain in some parts of the metro area.

An LCRA gauge in Oak Hill picked up just over 4 inches of rain Friday afternoon, with many gauges around the area picking up between 1 and 3 inches of rain. A Flash Flood Warning was issued for all of Hays County and southern Travis County, with a number of low-water crossings closing due to the torrential rainfall.

Behind the front, temperatures dropped into the lower 50s by 6 p.m. and will bottom out in the 40s Friday night. Rain and isolated thunderstorms are possible Saturday, with rain chances continuing into early next week.
