AUSTIN ( -- Central Texas will get another shot at possible strong to severe thunderstorms today, before some of our hottest temperatures of the year build in this weekend.

The Storm Prediction Center has been backing off severe weather chances for the area, with the latest forecast putting only a small portion of Hays and Travis, along with Caldwell and Bastrop Counties under a slight risk for severe storms. Much of Travis and Williamson Counties, including Austin itself, is now only under a marginal risk.

The storms are expected to fire as an area of low pressure moving out of the western United States moves through the area. Large hail and strong winds are the biggest threats with these storms, which could begin soon after Thursday's lunch hour.

High pressure will build in this weekend, pushing high temperatures to near the 100-degree mark. Humidity, though, could help push heat index values as high as 110 degrees, which may prompt heat advisories across the area.
