SUNSET VALLEY (KJCE) -- One person was arrested and a Sunset Valley police officer is on leave after a robbery that led to an officer-involved shooting early Sunday.

Police were dispatched to the Zales store at 5601 Brodie Lane around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The responding officer, identified as Oscar Lopez, found the doors of the store shattered and the suspect, identified as 25-year old Marc-Antonie Carrillo, attempting to leave the store.

Lopez ordered Carrillo to put his hands up, but Carrillo kept walking to his car. Lopez attempted to use his taser, but it had no effect.

The two began to struggle as Carrillo attempted to get into his car. He was able to start his car, dragging Lopez as he reversed out of the parking lot. Lopez then shot at Carrillo, hitting him in his right elbow.

Lopez separated himself from the vehicle, and Carrillo drove off. Travis County Sheriff's deputies pursued the vehicle and took Carrillo into custody later without incident. Carrillo was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

Carrillo has been charged with burglary and aggravated assault, a first-degree felony.

Lopez has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard policy for any officer-involved shooting.
